The Mayor of Clare is calling on the Minister for Transport to reverse the proposed ban on the burning of turf, peat or wood in heating homes.
Green Party Leader Eamon Ryan called for the move earlier this year, prompting a backlash from some in rural communities over the move.
There are are also attempts to initiate a nationwide ban on the sale and burning of smoky coal, which Fine Gael Councillor Mary Howard claims is still being burnt in parts of Ennis.

Minister Needs To 'Step Up To The Plate On Distributor Road - Carey

Clare’s Fine Gael TD says the Minister for Transport needs to ‘step up to the plate’ and sign off on the Northern Distributor Road.
Green Party Leader Eamon Ryan has stalled on approving the tender for the road, as he considers a local rail link in conjunction with the project.

Statement from the Department of Transport
Minister Ryan is carefully considering this project in the light of the overall development needs of Limerick and Shannon, and as part of the review of the National Development Plan.
