Grand alliance won't have to poach MLAs to form govt in Assam: Estranged ally's jibe at BJP

GUWAHATI: Taking a jibe at the BJP, its estranged ally Bodoland People s Front (BPF), which joined the Congress-led grand alliance of opposition parties on Saturday, said party conglomerate will be able to form the next government in Assam without having to poach MLAs from other parties.
We will form the next government without borrowing MLAs. You have seen it in BTC (Bodoland Territorial Council) elections. MLAs were kidnapped and taken to Shillong and Hotel Lily in Guwahati, insurgent leader-turned-politician and BPF president Hagrama Mohilary said on Sunday at a joint press conference of the grand alliance.
Exuding confidence that the coalition will get absolute majority in the upcoming Assam Assembly elections, he said it would drive out the ruling BJP and save the state. ....

Assam: BPF sever ties with BJP, joins hands with Congress ahead of assembly polls

Ahead of the upcoming Assam assembly elections, the Bodoland People s Front (BPF) on Saturday announced it has severed all ties with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and joined Congress-led Grand Alliance.
Taking to Twitter, BPF president Hagrama Mohilary said, To work for Peace, Unity and Development the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) has decided to join hands with MAHAJATH in the forthcoming Assam Assembly Election. We shall no longer maintain friendship or alliance with BJP.
BPF had won 12 seats in the 2016 assembly polls in the state.

Ganashakti Party (GP) MLA Bhuban Pegu joined the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) officially on Monday.

GUWAHATI: Ganashakti Party (GP) MLA Bhuban Pegu joined the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) officially on Monday. Both the parties are allies in the forthcoming Assembly election.
Pegu joined the party during a ceremony held at the party headquarters at Hengerabari in the presence of State BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass, BJP general secretary Dilip Saikia, MP Bhubaneswar Kalita and Minister Parimal Suklabaidya.
Additionally, former
APCC (Assam Pradesh Congress Committee) general secretary Jonali Borgohain, former Congress Minister Sarat Saikia s daughter Rashmita Saikia, and members from several Bengali organizations also joined the saffron party. ....

GUWAHATI: With a target of 100 plus seats together with allies, BJP has restructured the five-year-old rainbow North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) in Assam ahead of the assembly election by snapping old friendship and forging new ties and by merger of a couple of allies. The region’s biggest regional party, Asom Gana Party remains as BJP’s best friend.
BJP came to power in 2016 leading the alliance comprising four regional parties AGP, Bodoland People’s Front, Tiwa Aikya Mancha and Rabha Joutha Sangram Samiti. Another regional party Gana Shakti Party (GSP) extended support to the alliance post polls. The new alliance now is BJP-AGP- United People s Party Liberal-Gana Surakha Party. ....
