Umalusi approves matric results but continues investigation into two leaked papers By Sisonke Mlamla Share Cape Town – The quality assurance examination board, Umalusi, has approved the release of the 2020 National Senior Certificate (NSC) examination results, with the council revealing it found no irregularities that could have compromised the credibility of the exams. Umalusi Council chairperson John Volmink told the media at a briefing on Monday, that the results of matrics implicated in group copying and paper leakages would be withheld. Volmink said the executive committee of the council had approved the release of the Department of Basic Education (DBE) results of the November 2020 NSC based on available evidence that the examinations were administered in accordance with the examination policies and regulations despite the identified irregularities. ....

The Maths and Physical Science papers were leaked in November hours before pupils sat for the exams. The Basic Education Department launched an extensive investigation to probe the full extent of the leaks. File image NATIONAL NEWS - After a strenuous academic year, Umalusi, the Quality Council in General and Further Education and Training, has approved the release of the 2020 National Senior Certificate (NSC) examination results. Over the past three weeks, members of the Umalusi Assessment Standards Committee and Umalusi staff hade successfully conducted the quality assurance of the management and administration of exit point examinations. These includes the Independent Examinations Board (IEB); South African Comprehensive Assessment Institute (SACAI); Benchmark Assessment Agency (BAA); Department of Basic Education (DBE) and the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET). Addressing the media on Monday, Umalusi Chairperson, Professor John Volmink, noted that despite the challenges presented by COVID-19, the council’s quality assurance process focused on the aspects of its mandate, including the external moderation of question paper ....
Umalusi may nullify the certificates of candidates found guilty of having benefited from the leaking of the two matric exam papers, even after receiving their results.
