The district’s Monitoring Officer S. J. Chiru reviewed the ongoing anti-COVID-19 operations with Collector G. S. Sameeran and Member of Parliament Dhanush M. Kumar here on Friday.
The meeting resolved to intensify vaccination drive in the district.
Dr. Sameeran, while addressing the meeting, said performance of COVID-19 Unified Command Centre, oxygen position, treatment being given to the patients, vaccination drive etc. were reviewed by the Monitoring Officer. The modifications in anti-COVID-19 operations, if any, to be carried out in the functioning of officials as suggested by the Monitoring Officer, would be executed. ....

Drawing officials from the Departments of Public Health, Revenue, Police and Local Administration, Collector G. S. Sameeran has formed 10 teams to monitor the execution of COVID-19 norms in areas under their jurisdiction and send reports to their higher-ups on a daily basis so as to take immediate corrective measures.
Chairing a review meeting held here on Saturday, he said the monitoring teams, which had been formed to ensure the scrupulous implementation of COVID-19 norms in the areas under their jurisdiction, should send their reports to the Revenue Divisional Officer concerned every day. The monitoring teams should ensure disinfection of the public buildings and other public places in their areas every day. ....

Industries and business houses that violate COVID-19 norms will have to face serious action including closure, Anu George, Monitoring Officer for Tenkasi district, has said.
Addressing a review meeting here on Monday, Ms. Anu said commercial establishments should entertain customers wearing masks and send out others. They should display an announcement in this connecion and also ensure physical distancing on their premises.
“Employers should take immediate steps to vaccinate their employees, as it would prevent spread of viral infection,” said Ms. Anu, who visited the check-post at Puliyarai on Tenkasi – Kerala border.
She also inspected Tenkasi Government Hospital, vaccination at a primary health centre at Paavoorchathram and COVID-19 care centre at Sardar Raja College of Engineering near Alangulam along with Collector G.S. Sameeran and Superintendent of Police Suguna Singh. ....

The electronic voting machines used in the 5 Assembly segments in the election held on Tuesday were brought to the Government College of Engineering, the counting centre on the Nagercoil highway, to be kept in the strongrooms.
A total of 157 lorries with armed policemen collected the EVMs from the polling stations and brought it to Government College of Engineering in Palayamkottai. As the EVMs were being brought to the Government College of Engineering since last night, additional policemen and the Central Reserve Police Force personnel were deployed in and around the college. The EVMs were kept in the ‘strong room’ which were sealed in the presence of Collector V. Vishnu on Wednesday. ....
