Stabbing in Dunedin: Some staff may not return if supermarket reopens on Thursday

The police forensic examination, which was largely focused near the supermarket s pharmacy, concluded on Tuesday night.
Police tape preventing access to the car park was removed on Wednesday morning.
The car park remained off limits to media as a large of number of staff gathered outside the store on Wednesday morning.
Countdown did not give a specific opening time.

A blessing was held for about 50 staff. Senior police also attended.
“Our focus now is on helping make sure our team’s return to the store is as peaceful and as healing as it can be, and we would ask both the public and the media to respect our team’s privacy as they do this,” spokeswoman Kiri Hannifin said. ....

Supermarket stabbing accused remanded in custody


Two police officers, one of whom was off duty, were at scene of the stabbing at a Dunedin supermarket and were among those who stepped in, police say.
The 42-year-old man accused of stabbing four people at a Dunedin supermarket was remanded in custody after he briefly appeared in the Dunedin District Court this afternoon to face four charges of attempted murder related to a stabbing attack at the Countdown supermarket on Cumberland Street yesterday.
Among those attacked were two Countdown staff and a Corrections officer.
Southern district commander Superintendent Paul Basham said two police officers, one of whom was off duty, were also at the supermarket at the time and stepped in to provide aid and support. ....
