khowell@salemnews.net
HANOVERTON The United school board Tuesday morning approved a new policy regarding a reduction in force of administrators.
The board approved the new policy addressing a reduction in professional staff workforce, specifically administrators both professional and support. The second reading will be waived.
According to schools Superintendent Lance Hostetler, the board created the new policy due to a decreasing student population. The board did not take any action regarding current administrators.
The policy requires that a reduction in force will first be not replacing those who retire, resign or whose contracts are not renewed for any other reason than reduction in force. Reductions beyond those reasons will be based on the needs of the district. A reduction in force can also include moving from full-time to part-time or a reduction in contracted days of employment. ....

HANOVERTON – The United school board this week approved a shift from a junior high model to a middle school one.
Beginning in the fall, the sixth grade will be part of the junior-senior high section of the campus with grades 7-12. The sixth-grade students will be on the same arrival and dismissal time as grades seven through 12, as well.
All other details will be worked out at team meetings at a later date, Superintendent Lance Hostetler said. He also said he is confident the sixth-grade students will fit in the 7-12 section of campus, particularly since there are some empty classrooms at this time. ....
