Even more disturbing than former economy minister Pierre Fitzgibbon’s long-running violation of conflict-of-interest regulations is the Legault government’s evident attitude that it can pick and choose which laws to obey.
After several critical reports by Ethics Commissioner Ariane Mignolet, Fitzgibbon finally stepped down as minister Wednesday. The issue is that Fitzgibbon continues to hold stakes in two companies that do business with the government. No one is accusing Fitzgibbon of having profited from that situation, but Mignolet has ruled that those investments put him into a conflict of interest under the ethics law adopted in 2010, a law that Fitzgibbon should have been aware of before he entered politics. In her latest report, Mignolet said Fitzgibbon should either step down as minister and put the investments in a blind trust, or be suspended from the National Assembly until he disposes of the investments. ....

F1 no comment on Canadian Grand Prix confusion

Formula 1 are not commenting on credible reports claiming the 2021 Canadian Grand Prix, scheduled for June, won’t happen at all this year while local health officials are also downplaying the suggestions, simply adding to the confusion.
When approached for comment by GP247, an F1 spokesperson replied: “We are continuing our discussions with the promoter in Canada and have no further comment.”
Meanwhile, the Associated Press report that the Canadian Grand Prix remains on the schedule for the 2021 World Championship season but reports are that the race is all but cancelled as Montreal health officials fear the potential spread of COVID-19 when the Formula 1 circus hits town. ....

MONTREAL The Canadian Grand Prix remains on the Formula One schedule for the 2021 season at least for the time being, but there’s a chance it could be cancelled soon.
On Thursday morning, a report by Radio-Canada suggested Montreal public health issued a notice opposing the event due to the risk of spread of COVID-19.
