MQM-P says would reopen Karachi if PM orders

KARACHI: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) Convener Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui on Tuesday said that if imposing the lockdown is so necessary and the coronavirus rate in Karachi has reached the worrying stage, the federal and provincial governments should declare Karachi and Hydedeabd ‘calamity hit’ immediately and waive all taxes on the residents and traders. He was addressing a press conference at the party’s temporary headquarters after a delegation of various traders’ bodies of the city met him. He said the prime minister say the lockdown is not in the interest of the country, but the Sindh government believes imposition of the lockdown would benefit Pakistan. “If the prime minister announces today, tomorrow the businesses will open in Karachi.” ....

ISLAMABAD/KARACHI:
A delegation comprising the federal ministers and parliamentarians from Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Pakistan here called on Prime Minister Imran Khan, said a press release issued by the Prime Minister’s Office on Thursday.
The delegation comprised National Assembly member Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui and Sindh lawmakers Kunwar Naveed Jamil and Haider Rizvi. Federal ministers Asad Umar, Ali Haider Zaidi, Aminul Haq, Sindh Governor Imran Ismail, Sindh Assembly member Haleem Adil Sheikh were also present.
During the meeting, the participants discussed the overall political situation as well as the upcoming Senate election. The MQM s parliamentarians assured complete solidarity with the government for election of the upper house of the parliament. ....
