Leading Classification Society ClassNK released its CBM Guidelines (Edition 2.0) that explain the revised rules for using Condition Based Maintenance (CBM) in class surveys to promote the use of CBM technology.
From safe operation and operational cost reduction perspectives, Condition Based Maintenance (CBM) has been attracting more attention. Under such circumstances, ClassNK amended its CBM rules in 2020 specifying requirements for incorporating modern CBM in surveys. ClassNK also published its CBM Guidelines (First Edition) in 2019, which clarify required documents and the approval procedure for substituting CBM in place of periodical overhaul inspection for class maintenance surveys.
As a reference to select equipment and methods for CBM, the revised guidelines contain case studies based on risk evaluation of CBM implementation in consideration of cost efficiency as well as comparisons between CBM surveys and convention ....

NYK starts sharing Ship Operation Data with Japan’s Fisheries
NYK has started to share certain ship operation data with the Japan Fisheries Information Service Center (JAFIC) through IoS Open Platform (IoS-OP) a ship IoT data-sharing platform promoted by Ship Data Center Co. Ltd. (ShipDC). This initiative is the first time that shipping industry data has been shared with other industries through IoS-OP.
NYK is an original core member of the IoS-OP Consortium, which was established in May 2018. Through its SIMS ship performance monitoring system, NYK collects data on the operation of about 200 SIMS-equipped ships and has been actively sharing that data through IoS-OP. This aids improvements in safety and economic efficiency in ship operation and design by utilizing actual sea area data that transcends the boundaries of companies, and addresses social issues through the data-sharing scheme provided by iOS-OP. ....

MOL to expand sharing of ship operation data
Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. and Ship Data Center Co., Ltd. have agreed to share the data of about 180 MOL’s ships in operation targeted for MOL’s “FOCUS Project” 1through IoS Open Platform (IoS-OP) 2, the ship IoT data sharing platform promoted by ShipDC.
MOL had so far stored operation data collected from several vessels to IoS-OP, and has agreed to expand the sharing to about 180ships in operation. This data sharing will significantly increase the amount of ship operation data transferred in IoS-OP, and will enable the stakeholders to utilize the data shared in IoS-OP to enhance their corporate value through the pursuit of ship safety and economic efficiency, environmental initiatives, and the creation of innovations in the maritime industry to strengthen international competitiveness. ....
