Memorial to those who died at sea unveiled in Lerwick

A MEMORIAL commemorating the services and sacrifices of local seafarers was unveiled at Hays Dock in Lerwick on Tuesday afternoon.
Plans to erect a merchant navy memorial at the Lerwick waterfront go back to 2015.
After a number of early setbacks the project got some momentum with a number of public funders, while individuals and local businesses also donated towards the overall cost of around £10,000.
On Tuesday afternoon a small crowd gathered outside the Shetland Museum and Archives to witness the low-key event.

February 11, 2021WOLFEBORO Two warrant articles, one for recreational dock repairs (Article 9) and another for dock expansion (Article 11), await approval from the voters on March 9.
Discussion on both took place at the Deliberative Session on Feb. 2. Regarding Article 9, Dock A repairs, paid for by warrant Article 17 in 2020, are under construction and scheduled to be finished by March 15; the rebuilding of B, C, D is scheduled for completion by June 2021, and E, F, and G by March 2022. ....

SCOTTSBORO, Ala. (WAFF) - It was a devastating start to the day.
On January 27, 2020 a tragedy affected an entire community.
A deadly fire ravaged the Jackson County Boat Marina, leaving eight people dead. Seven people were rescued and taken to the hospital for injuries.
Scottsboro Fire Chief Gene Necklaus said he will never forget that day.
“When I come to work in the morning, I come across the causeway there on 35 and I remember that morning a year ago coming across and you can see the devastation already. And I look over there occasionally coming into work and I did this morning,” said Necklaus. ....
