White-collar jobs return with 2.90 lakh openings in July

For the first time since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, white-collar hiring in some of the worst-hit sectors such as travel & tourism, hotel & hospitality, retail & recreation, and automobiles is witnessing signs of a recovery.
These sectors posted more than 12,000 active job openings in July alone, showed data from LinkedIn and top company job boards, put together by specialist staffing firm Xpheno.
The total number of active jobs in the past month was 290,000, amid resurgence of a wider range of commercial activities, green shoots of hiring in sectors that were lying nearly dormant since the start of the pandemic, as well as more employment opportunities in segments that are on an accelerated growth path. ....

The two waves of the pandemic disrupted both lives and livelihood as both individuals and businesses suffered. Businesses reoriented to deal with the new reality and careers of professionals diverged from a steady planned path. An online survey conducted by ET Wealth last week and conversations with business leaders and employees across the country during both waves of the pandemic reveals how much has changed. Our survey, which got 1,442 responses across age groups, income levels and geographies, shows that one in three employees lost their jobs during the pandemic (see graphic). Two out of three who lost their jobs have still not found alternate employment. The median time taken to find new employment was 3-6 months. Only about 27% of all employee ....
