PHNOM PENH (The Phnom Penh Post/ANN): The National Police have vowed to tighten gun control and crack down on illegal weapon trafficking in order to maintain security, safety and social order as officials and civil society organisations are worried about increasing rates of gun violence.
Shootings in Cambodia are rare compared to some countries but they do take place every year. Many of the cases stem from interpersonal conflicts like spousal jealousy, arguments following vehicle accidents and disputes over land.
Theam Bun Seng, director of the Ministry of Interior’s weapon control department, said guns in the Kingdom are governed by the Law on Weapons, Explosives and Ammunition Management consisting of six chapters with 26 articles. ....

The National Police have vowed to tighten gun control and crack down on illegal weapon trafficking in order to maintain security, safety and social order as officials and civil society organisations are worried about increasing rates of gun violence.
Shootings in Cambodia are rare compared to some countries but they do take place every year. Many of the cases stem from interpersonal conflicts like spousal jealousy, arguments following vehicle accidents and disputes over land. Whatever the motive behind it, the violence leaves people injured and sometimes even killed.

The Cambodian Women Parliamentarians Caucus (CWPC) has launched the “Girl2Leader Cambodia” campaign to share experience and knowledge with young women throughout the country, instilling in them ideas of responsibility, decision-making and women’s leadership in politics.
Lork Kheng – chairperson for the National Assembly’s (NA) Commission on Healthcare; Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation; Labour and Vocational Training; and Women’s Affairs – told The Post on January 11 that this campaign had been launched five times since last year: three times in Phnom Penh and once each in Kandal and Kratie provinces. ....

Gov't scraps deals on Boeung Tamok Lake


The reversal came following a direct order from Prime Minister Hun Sen.
According to a letter dated January 4 and signed by Council of Ministers permanent secretary of state Hing Thoraksy, the government has annulled its previous prakas, numbered 790, giving permission to carve out 15ha of the lake in Prek Phnov district which was to be used to construct new facilities for the Ministry of Rural Development.
The government also annulled prakas number 791, which would have carved out another 15ha of the lake to make way for the construction of new facilities for the National Committee for Disaster Management (NCDM), the Cambodian Human Rights Committee (CHRC) and the Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority (CMAA). ....
