Ghana university to be renamed after Jerry Rawlings

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has said that the Universality of Development Studies (UDS) will be renamed after the late former President Jerry John Rawlings.
This comes after Mr Akufo-Addo said the family of the late former Ghanaian leader have accepted the proposal to that effect.
An earlier proposal to rename the university after the Founder of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) was rejected by Mr Rawlings when was he was alive.

Former Ghanaian president Jerry Rawlings State funeral underway in Accra

The burial of former Ghanaian President Jerry John Rawlings has been buried with full military honours in the country’s capital, Accra.
Local television channels reported the arrival of dignitaries to the State funeral as early as 10am.
Ghana’s President Nana Akufo Addo, First Lay Rebecca Akufo Addo, Sierra Leone Presidet Julius Bio and some foreign dignitaries are attending the burial.
Tributes are pouring for the former president.
His daughter Dr Zanetor Rawlings remembered her father as a man with a larger-than-life personality. ....

Jerry John Rawlings to be buried at Military Cemetery

Rawlings will be buried on January 27
The Military Cemetery at Burma Camp has been settled on as the place of internment for late President Jerry John Rawlings.
Speaking at a press conference to announce arrangement for Rawlings’s funeral, Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah said that he will be buried at the Military Cemetery.
As per the arrangement read by Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the funeral activities will begin on January 22 with a series of traditional events by the Anlo Traditional Council at Anlo.
There will be a Mass at the Holy Spirit Cathedral on January 24 after which a vigil will be held in honour of Rawlings at the Airforce Base at 6pm. ....

Roads to Parliament to close January 7— Police

Some roads leading to and from Parliament House will be closed to the public on Thursday, January 7, 2020 during the swearing-in of the President-elect, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the Vice President-elect, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
The move forms part of security measures put in place by the Ghana Police Service to ensure a smooth conduct of activities during the inauguration.
The roads to be closed are the Osu Cemetery Traffic Light on the Lokko Street, the Castle Road from AU Circle to Osu Cemetery Traffic Light, the Crossroad heading towards Starlet 95 Street, the Independence Arch near the Ohene Djan Stadium, the Gamel Abdul Nasser Avenue (Ghana Institute of Journalism) Road on the Haile Selassie Street and the Opeibea, 37 Military Interchange and Ako Adjei on the Liberation Road. ....
