Israeli banks could resume dividends later in 2021, regulator says

JERUSALEM, Feb 15 (Reuters) - Israeli banks will likely be allowed to resume limited dividend payments later this year after having overcome a wave of loan deferments during the coronavirus pandemic, the country’s banking regulator said.
Yair Avidan, the supervisor of banks at the Bank of Israel, also said he backed banks’ moves into “digital wallets” and expects Apple Pay to enter the Israeli market this year, with similar offerings from Samsung and Google to follow later.
Three of Israel’s largest banks Hapoalim, Leumi and Discount have announced plans to launch digital wallets, which allow customers to pay via mobile phones in stores. ....

UPDATE 1-South Korea's Samsung Heavy settles Brazil graft probe for $149 mln

BRASILIA, Feb 23 (Reuters) - South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries agreed to pay 812 million reais ($148.56 million) in a leniency deal with Brazilian authorities to settle corruption investigations, federal prosecutors said late on Monday.
On its website, the prosecutor’s office said the deal was part of a global negotiation between the company and U.S. and Brazilian authorities to settle alleged crimes over contracts with state-owned oil maker Petroleo Brasileiro SA.
A Samsung Heavy representative confirmed the company signed a pact with Brazilian authorities but declined further comment, saying more information would be disclosed in a regulatory filing. ....

9,000-Year-Old Campsite With Hundreds of Artifacts Unearthed Near Rhuddlan Castle


An ancient campsite and hundreds of stone artifacts were unearthed near the 13
th century Rhuddlan Castle in Rhuddlan, Denbighshire, Wales. Additionally, they were located close to Twthill which is the location of a motte (or mound) dating back to the 11
th century and is believed to be where the town’s first castle was built.
Denbighshire county councilor Ann Davies explained that a house was approved to be built on Hylas Lane which is near the castle and Twthill so they decided that an archaeological dig would be conducted prior to the construction and that’s when they found the artifacts and campsite. ....

New Swedish venture eyes fossil fuel-free steel production in 3 years

STOCKHOLM, Feb 23 (Reuters) - Swedish steel venture H2 Green Steel is planning to build a fossil fuel-free steel plant in the north of Sweden, including a sustainable hydrogen facility, with production starting in 2024, it said on Tuesday.
The Lulea-based venture, which is in the process of closing 50 million euros ($60.7 million) in series A equity financing, said in a statement that by 2030 it plans to have an annual production capacity of 5 million tonnes.
“The project includes a giga-scale green hydrogen plant as an integrated part of the steel production facility,” it said.
The European Union has made hydrogen a key part of its plan to eliminate its greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, and is betting on a rapid scale-up to decarbonise steel, heavy transport and chemicals. ....
