Karnataka Gram Panchayat election 2020 results: Counting of votes begins
Both the rulingÂ BJPÂ and opposition Congress inÂ KarnatakaÂ on Wednesday claimed major victories for candidates backed by them in the recent elections to over 5,700 villageÂ panchayatsÂ even as counting of votes polled in the grass-root level exercise was underway. Elections were held for a total of 91,339 seats in 5,728 Gram Panchayats of 226 talukas in the state, out of which candidates have been elected unopposed for 8,074 seats. Elections were conducted for 43,238 seats in the first phase on December 22, while voting took place for 39,378 seats in the second phase on December 27. A total of 2,22,814 candidates were in the fray. ....

Bengaluru, Dec 30: In a recent development, the BJP appears to be in strong position in the gram panchayat polls with lead on over 3870 seats. The Congress is at the second position in terms of seats while the JDS is at the third position.

Both the parties were in power a year ago in the state. Currently, the BJP-backed candidates are now leading on 3870 seats while Congress supported candidates are ahead on just 1988.
The JDS candidates are leading on about 1035 seats. The counting of votes for over 70,000 seats spread across 5,728 villages began this morning at 8 AM. ....

Karnataka Gram Panchayat election results: BJP backed candidates leading in panchayat polls

Bengaluru, Dec 30: Initial trends indicate that the candidates backed by the BJP have won a majority of panchayat seats in Karnataka as the counting of votes progressed on Wednesday.
Though these polls don t take place on party symbols, all political parties have put in efforts to ensure that the candidate supported by them wins, so as to have their hold on grassroot level politics, which may prove advantageous for them in taluk or zilla panchayat and even assembly polls whenever it happens.
According to sources, the BJP has so far secured 4,228 seats, followed by the Congress with 2,265 seats, JD(S) 1,167 seats and independents 678 seats. Karnataka State Election Commission officials said counting was on at all 226 centres at the Taluk headquarters by adhering to strict COVID-19 protocol of mandatory wearing of face masks, social distancing and hand hygiene. ....
