The Karnataka Growers’ Federation has appealed to the State government to safeguard the growers from repeated raids on their farms by wild animals, including elephants, monkeys, gaurs, peacocks and deer.
Federation general secretary K.B. Krishnappa, in his appeal , said that hundreds of growers had suffered a huge loss in recent years due to wild animals. He alone suffered a loss to the tune of ₹8 lakh to ₹ 10 lakh in the last two years. “The federation has submitted memorandums to all officers, starting from gram panchayats to PCCF of Forest Department, regarding the problem. Some officials have visited the spot and understood the problem. However, nobody provided them with relief”, he said. ....

Karnataka Growers’ Federation has appealed to the State government to provide minimum support price for coffee, considering the loss coffee growers suffered in the last one year.
KGF president H.T. Mohan Kumar and secretary K.B. Krishnappa, in a press release issued here on Thursday, said that coffee growers had been in financial distress as nearly 50 pc of the yield from coffee and pepper farms was lost due to untimely rains in January. The growers were not in a position to harvest the remaining yield due to non-availability of workers. The officers of Agriculture, Horticulture and Revenue Departments had been doing survey to assess the loss suffered. ....

In the first phase of gram panchayat elections in Hassan, Arkalgud, Channarayapatna and Sakleshpur taluks of Hassan district, representatives have been elected for 197 seats unopposed, while there are no contenders for 34 seats.
Deputy Commissioner of Hassan R. Girish, at a press conference in Hassan on Tuesday, said elections will be held for 1,472 seats on December 22. There are 3,867 contenders in the fray.
Among the seats for which there were no contenders for 33 are in Sakleshpur taluk. The Karnataka Growers’ Federation, opposing the implementation of Dr. K. Kasturirangan’s report on the Western Ghats, had called for boycotting the election to put pressure on the governments on this issue. ....

There are no candidates for 139 seats of gram panchayats in Chikkamagaluru district, going for polls on December 22. Among the 2,139 total seats of 209 gram panchayats, elections will be held for 1,893 seats. Representatives have been elected unopposed for 107 seats.
In response to Karnataka Growers’ Federation’s call to boycott the elections opposing the implementation of Dr. K. Kasturirangan’s report on the Western Ghats, residents of many panchayats in Chikkamagaluru, N.R.Pura, Mudigere taluks are not taking part. Among the seats for which there are no contenders, 70 are in Chikkamagaluru taluk, 33 in Mudigere and 28 in N.R. Pura taluk. ....
