The State government has, as part of its efforts to develop tourism in the State, decided to build heliports in major tourist destinations, including Kalaburagi, Tourism Minister C.P. Yogeshwar has said.
“We have decided to build heliports in major tourist destinations across the State to boost tourism. Kalyana Karnataka has good potential for development of tourism as it has many historical monuments. We have, therefore, included Kalaburagi in the list of places where we are going to build heliports,” Mr. Yogeshwar said during his interaction with mediapersons at the district administrative complex in Kalaburagi on Tuesday. ....

Hundreds of activists associated with Republican Youth Federation (RYF) staged a demonstration outside the Kalaburagi City Municipal Corporation here on Wednesday condemning the civic body for returning the funds released for installing an Ambedkar statue at Jagat Circle.
The agitating activists said that tender was called for the project about four years ago but the municipal authorities did not take up the project.
“Tenders were called for installing the statues of Ambedkar and Basaveshwara at Jagat Circle. The authorities installed the statue of Basaveshwara alone. They did not take steps to install Ambedkar’s statue. Now, they have returned the funds allocated for the Ambedkar statue. When asked, the authorities gave an evasive answer,” Hanumantha Itagi, district convenor of RYF, said during the protest. ....

Expressing dissatisfaction with the poor implementation of the Special Component Plan (SCP) and Tribal Sub-Plan (TSP), government schemes meant for members of Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) communities respectively, Kalaburagi Deputy Commissioner Vijaya Jyothsna on Saturday directed officials to come up with innovative programmes to make the intended beneficiaries aware of the benefits of schemes introduced for them.
When the officials concerned pleaded helplessness to take the benefits to the doorsteps of the intended beneficiaries, saying that there were not enough people who had applied for the schemes, Ms. Jyothsna directed the officials to organise workshops and camps in such places where the beneficiaries were concentrated and make them aware of the schemes. ....
