TEMECULA, CA A truck driver suspected of driving under the influence of drugs and causing a fiery crash last week that killed a young Murrieta man on Interstate 15 in Temecula has been charged with murder.
Kevin Wayne May, 47, of Fontana was charged Thursday with murder and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. He was being held at Southwest Detention Center in lieu of $1 million bail and is due to be arraigned Friday afternoon at the Southwest Justice Center, according to court records.
The California Highway Patrol, which was investigating the April 22 crash, forwarded the case to the Riverside County District Attorney s Office on Wednesday. ....

Penn Valley driver charged with vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated

A Penn Valley man has been arrested in connection with a collision that killed a motorcyclist last August.
Christopher Michael Ragans, 48, was taken into custody Wednesday. He remained jailed Thursday on a $175,000 bond, according to Nevada County Jail records.
Ragans has been charged with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, driving under the influence causing injury, driving under the influence of drugs and driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, court records state.
He was set to be arraigned on the charges in Nevada County Superior Court Thursday, and will next return to court Feb. 18. ....

Hit-and-run driver still being sought by CHP

Authorities are still searching for a 23-year-old woman who they say hit a motorcyclist head-on Saturday and fled the scene.
Brienne Amber Rousseau was identified by witnesses and evidence at the scene, said California Highway Patrol Officer Mike Steele.
Rousseau was driving an Infiniti G35 southbound on Lower Colfax Road, near Laws Ranch Road, at just after noon when she hit a northbound BMW motorcycle, Steele said.
“She was driving on the wrong side of the road,” he said.
The motorcyclist, a 51-year-old man from Roseville, was ejected and sustained major but non-life-threatening injuries, Steele said. He was flown to Sutter Roseville Medical Center. ....

Driver ID'd in fatal wreck on San Juan Ridge

A 77-year-old San Juan Ridge man was killed in a solo vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.
Philip Marria was driving a Jeep Cherokee westbound on Tyler Foote Crossing Road, just west of Oak Tree Road, around 2:50 p.m. when the wreck occurred, said California Highway Patrol Officer Mike Dickinson.
“He straightened out of a curve” and lost control of his Jeep for unknown reasons, hitting an oak tree, Dickinson said.
Marria was pronounced dead at the scene, he said.
According to Dickinson, alcohol or drugs are not believed to have been a factor, and there was no evidence of speeding or mechanical issues. There were no witnesses to the crash, he added. ....
