De Vera hits back at critics: You don't understand flexible learning

De Vera hits back at critics: You don't understand flexible learning
May 24, 2021 11:13 AM PHT
After drawing flak over his pronouncement that "flexible learning is here to stay" even after the pandemic, Commission on Higher Education (CHED) chair Prospero de Vera III hit back at critics, saying that they didn't understand what the flexible learning system was.
In an interview with ANC's
Headstart on Monday, May 24, De Vera said that he was concerned about his critics because "they are confusing the issue."
"They are saying flexible learning equals online learning," De Vera said.
"I don't know why they still don't understand the meaning of flexible learning, or maybe they refuse to understand the meaning of flexible learning because they want to criticize the government," he added.

Editor’s note: GoodRap continues to share stories of brands and companies leveraging their resources to help communities in need.
In line with this, Ayala Foundation launched Project , which aims to help the Filipino youth gain basic computer science and coding skills with the goal of bridging the digital divide in the country.
When the pandemic accelerated the digital transformation of Philippine education, Filipino students were not just encouraged to be digitally literate but were
required to be one.
With most of the new forms of learning linked to digital technology and the internet, digital literacy spelled the difference between passing and failing classes. [READ: INFOGRAPHIC: The state of Philippine education at the time of a pandemic]

Students urge schools to extend academic break amid rising COVID-19 cases

Students urge schools to extend academic break amid rising COVID-19 cases

Following the government’s one-week extension of the enhanced community quarantine over "NCR Plus," students from different universities have kickstarted petitions and sent formal letters calling on their school administrations to extend the academic break in light of the surge in COVID-19 cases in the country.
Several universities have so far taken the initiative to suspend synchronous and asynchronous classes, including the University of Santo Tomas, which extended its academic break to April 11.
Echoing similar concerns last 2020 during the first nationwide lockdown, university student councils urged administrations to recognize the impacts the surge in COVID-19 cases have left on other students and faculty.

[OPINION] The scope of loss: 5 years after the UP Faculty Center fire

[OPINION] The scope of loss: 5 years after the UP Faculty Center fire
Apr 1, 2021 10:15 PM PHT
Jonathan Victor Baldoza
The news erupted sometime after midnight. Though my tasks for the night remained unfinished, I was glued to my social media feeds as they generated an avalanche of updates.
Once it was verified that the reports were neither fake nor part of a cruel April Fools’ prank, that there was indeed a fire and it was in fact the FC being razed to the ground, I felt an anguish and panic that only kept worsening as the incident went on. While the FC was no paradise – with its terrible indoor lighting, poor ventilation, cramped spaces, and dilapidated facilities – it was, nevertheless, to professors and to many of their students, a home in many ways, an intimate bazaar in the greater marketplace of ideas, a welcoming shelter for the inquisitive mind.
