SINGAPORE, July 22 Two men who illegally kept exotic animals as pets and paid to smuggle yet more creatures across the Causeway were fined in court yesterday (July 21).
Nonis Randy Amin Nonis Amran, a self-professed animal lover and volunteer with the Animal Concerns Research and Education Society (Acres), was fined a total of S$8,000 (RM24,801).
The 31-year-old had kept two central bearded dragons and a green iguana in his flat, and abetted the importation of an Argentine black-and-white tegu into Singapore via Woodlands Checkpoint. ....

The sale and slaughter of live turtles and frogs at wet markets in Singapore have been banned since December.
The move came after a joint appeal by wildlife rescue group Animal Concerns Research and Education Society (Acres) and the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) to raise the safety and welfare standards of live animals sold for food. ....

In an interview with 
Lianhe Zaobao, the dog s owner, an Australian woman, said that she had called for her dog, Mia, a couple of times.
However, the 39-year-old engineer found something amiss when she didn t hear any response.
After she heard from her husband that he had not brought Mia to work, the woman then stepped out of her apartment in [email protected] and went around the back of the condo to find her pet dog.
That was when she spotted a python wrapping itself around her dog and swallowing its head.
She was so stunned that she stood frozen on the spot for at least five minutes before she yelled for help. ....

She called for her dog several times on Monday (Jan 18), but when the Pomeranian failed to respond, a woman called her husband to see if he had brought their dog, Mia, to the office. When he said no, the 39-year-old Australian national felt a sinking feeling in her stomach.
She stepped out of her apartment in Eleven@Holland and circled around the back of the complex when she came across a blood-chilling sight  a three-metre-long python wrapped around Mia, swallowing the dog s head.
In an interview with Lianhe Wanbao, the woman said she was so shocked by what she saw that she wasn t able to move for five minutes. ....
