ISLAMABAD: The government on Thursday agreed to provide seed money to a new financing scheme for small and medium enterprise (SME) sector proposed by the central bank.
Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Shaukat Tarin said the provision of microcredit will create employment opportunities at the local level.
“[It] will enhance GDP growth and will help in achieving sustainable and robust economic growth,” Tarin said during a meeting with the Minister for Industries and Production Khusroo Bakhtiyar. Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Finance and Revenue Waqar Masood was also present during the meeting. Governor State Bank of Pakistan Reza Baqir joined the meeting through video link. ....

Governor State Bank Dr. Reza Baqir called on Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin in Islamabad today (Wednesday) and updated him on different policy initiatives taken to support businesses amid Coronavirus pandemic.
The Finance Minister commended the measures taken by SBP to shield small and medium businesses against insolvency and joblessness during testing times.
He also lauded the ‘Roshan Digital Accounts’ initiative which facilitated non-resident Pakistanis to mobilize their savings by making investment in Pakistan through online banking.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister s Adviser on Institutional Reforms and Austerity Dr. Ishrat Hussain also called on the Finance Minister and briefed him on the progress made on various aspects of Civil Service reforms. ....

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan, citing reports, said on Thursday that as compared to Pakistan’s exports, exports of India and Bangladesh showed negative growth in November and December, 2020.
Prime minister tweeted, “I have received the regional export trends and this shows that, compared to our exports, the exports of India and Bangladesh for Nov/Dec 2020 showed negative growth. I wish once again to congratulate the exporters and the Ministry of Commerce for this achievement”.
Statistics were also uploaded on his twitter account, which showed Pakistan’s exports in November and December last year were 8.32 percent and 18.30 percent, respectively, while those of India were -9.07 per cent and -0.80 per cent, whereas Bangladesh’s were 0.76 per cent and -6.11 per cent for the same period. ....
