Small fire at county jail carries hefty price tag
A fire in the kitchen of the Wichita County Jail Wednesday night meant inmates had sandwiches for breakfast Thursday morning.
Wichita County Commissioner Mark Beauchamp said a grease fire started in one of the big ovens.  The Wichita Falls Fire Department was called but jail staff was able to put out the blaze with fire extinguishers.
“It was pretty well contained to one area,” Beauchamp said. “I think they’ll be back in operation for lunch.”
The fire may have been small, but it will carry a hefty price tag. Beauchamp estimated the cost of replacing the ruined oven will be about $30,000. He said some food and small items were also destroyed. ....
