Administration told council last September they had begun studying different equipment used to help break up ice-jams and prevent potential flooding. This includes an ice-breaking machine called an Amphibex, which is used to clear river ice jams in Manitoba.

A report on a potential regional pilot program was expected by June. But the municipality’s Public Works department asked for more time following reports on the Athabasca and Clearwater rivers.
Staff are concerned about the findings of a 2017 study by the University of Saskatchewan that looked into the effectiveness of the Amphibex locally. The report was commissioned by the municipality and concluded more research was needed into the technology. ....

Council voted 6-4 to ask administration to relaunch consultations with residents for the proposed new Land Use Bylaw. An updated proposed bylaw will be heard by the next council after the October election.
During Tuesday’s meeting, council heard from many people with concerns about the bylaw and felt they had not been consulted. The longest discussion was with former Opposition Leader Brian Jean, who is trying to open a wedding and event space in Draper. ....
