West Bengal Assembly Elections 2021: Election Commission of India issues guidelines for maintaining Covid-19 protocol at 11 counting centres


Covid-19 Protocol at the counting centres on May 2:
⚫ No candidate or agent or counting officials will be allowed inside the counting centres without producing negative reports for RT-PCR/Rapid Antigen Test or certificate of two doses of vaccination against Covid-19
⚫ No one, including political party cadres, will be allowed within the 100-metre periphery of the counting centres. The 100-metre no-entry zone will be demarcated
⚫ Public gathering will not be allowed even outside the 100 metres of the counting centres
⚫ No one having fever or Covid-19-like symptoms will be allowed inside the counting centre.
⚫ Not more than two persons will be allowed to accompany the winning candidates to receive the certificate from the returning officer ....

West Bengal Assembly elections 2021: How to vote from home


Calcuttans who are 80 years or older have the option to cast their vote at home with polling officials coming over for the exercise.
Thousands of voters have availed themselves of the service during the fourth phase, while many more have applied for the same in the remaining four phases.
Here is how the process of voting from home, introduced this year in Bengal, works.

Eligibility
Anyone who is 80 or above and has his or her name on the electoral list is eligible to vote from home. Booth-level polling officers have to provide such persons with “Form 12D”, where they have to state that they want to vote from home.The officers have to take back the filled-in form within five days of the notification of election in that constituency. ....

Five people were killed in two separate incidents of firing during elections at Sitalkuchi Assembly in north Bengal on Saturday sending shockwaves across the State where voting for four more phases is yet to be held. 
Four persons were killed when central forces opened fire at polling booth number 126 at Amtali Madhyamik Siksha Kendra under Jor Patki gram panchayat at Sitalkuchi Assembly segment. ....

New Delhi, March 14 : The BJP on Sunday named several Union Ministers, MPs and actors as its candidates in the West Bengal Assembly polls.
For the high octane polls, the party has fielded Union Minister Supriyo Babul from Tollygunge, actor-turned-politician and Lok Sabha member Locket Chatterjee from Churchura, journalist and MP Swapan Dasgupta from Tarakeshwar, and noted economist Ashok Lahiri from Alipurduar.
Releasing the list of candidates at a press conference here, BJP national General Secretary Arun Singh said that the names were finalised in the Central Election Committee (CEC) meeting, chaired by party chief J.P. Nadda and attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi among others, held on Saturday. ....
