NEW DELHI: West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday alleged that the three central agri laws would help some businessmen who are close to the ruling BJP government. On the other hand, her Haryana counterpart Manohar Lal Khattar said some leaders were using the farmers to grind their own axe. Meanwhile, the Centre has said the minimum support price (MSP) is completely compliant with the rules of the World Trade Organisation (WTO).

1. Mamata Banerjee alleged that the centre’s farm laws are meant to help a few businessmen who are its friends. These businessmen are BJP capitalists and once the three farm laws are introduced, they will try to forcibly purchase crops from the farmers, she said at a programme in Burdwan. New Delhi, Feb 4 : The Trinamool Congress on Thursday observed a moment s silence as a tribute to the farmers who died during the ongoing agitation, while participating in the debate on the motion of thanks on the President s address in Parliament. Other opposition members also joined in paying tribute.
Trinamool s Derek O Brien during the debate said, There should be proper inquiry into the death of the farmers during the January 26 incident. He said the buck stops at the Home Minister s Office. ....

NEW DELHI : The ruling BJP on Thursday defended the three new farm laws in Rajya Sabha saying the Government was committed to farmers’ welfare, and questioned the opposition parties for changing their stance on agricultural market reforms.
Speaking on the Motion of Thanks to the President’s address to the joint sitting of Parliament, senior BJP member Jyotiraditya Scindia said the government is committed to the welfare of farmers and has taken a host of steps in the last six years to increase their income.
Scindia, who was recently elected to Rajya Sabha, highlighted that the NDA Government has been successful in handling the COVID-19 pandemic and also turning the crisis into an opportunity. ....
