Lakeview School District 'hoping for good turnout' at polls | News, Sports, Jobs

COTTONWOOD Â Voters in the Lakeview School District will be heading to the polls today, as the school faces a two-question building bond referendum that could carry a total cost of up to $10.8 million.
The referendum would fund a variety of updates to the older part of the Lakeview school building in Cottonwood, as well as to the athletic fields, if both questions pass.
“We’re hoping for a good turnout,” Lakeview Superintendent Chris Fenske said Monday.
The COVID-19 pandemic has made it impossible to hold in-person public meetings to answer questions about the referendum, so Lakeview has been getting the word out through the school district website and a series of livestreamed virtual meetings. Recordings of the virtual meetings received several hundred views, Fenske said. ....

Darrell Dirckx, head custodian at Lakeview Public Schools, explained some of the facilities needs that are included in a proposed bond referendum being considered by the district. A total of 35 rooftop HVAC units, like the one visible behind Dirckx, are original to the 2002 Lakeview school building, and need to be replaced.
COTTONWOOD Â It’s getting close to 20 years since the oldest part of Lakeview School was built, and there’s parts of the building that need to be replaced due to age and wear.
The school district will be voting on a two-part, total $10.8 million facilities bond referendum that would fund the projects Â but the process of getting the word out to the voters will be a little different, because of the COVID-19 pandemic. ....
