10 things to bid on at Neptune's fundraising auction | Arts + Culture | Halifax, Nova Scotia

Yes, you do need the disco ball from
Mamma Mia!
You gotta feel for Neptune Theatre. Days after it announced its tepid return to live shows, the government called for another lockdown (making those shows cancelled, of course). The new premier pretty quickly called JK on the whole thing–pulling the plug on a proposed monthlong shutdown one week in–but that doesn’t give the average live venue enough time to remount a cancelled show (or even recover from the whiplash, really).
But, if you’re looking for other ways to support the biggest professional theatre company in Atlantic Canada (and really, you should be if you want to keep this anchor in our local theatre scene alive), take a look through its current fundraising auction. The online auction, hosted until March 16, is full of Neptune costumes, props and memorabilia–the total definition of hidden gems that’ll bring a bit of Halifax into your home decor. ....

Halifax's committee to look at defining defunding police to be made up of folks with relevant lived experience | City | Halifax, Nova Scotia

Defining defunding police committee gets important approval from police board
With approval from the board it can finally get to work.
Halifax’s Board of Police Commissioners gave another green light to the committee that’s tasked with figuring out what people in Halifax think “defunding” the police should mean. After first deciding it needed an external committee to develop a definition for defunding the police in August, the board’s been slow to let it start working, but now things should start rolling.
The defunding definition committee, chaired by professor and poet El Jones, provided its terms of reference and scope at Monday’s BoPC meeting. ....

Only 1 case March 10 | COVID-19 | Halifax, Nova Scotia

The Coast
The humans beat the virus today, with Nova Scotia reporting three recoveries and a trifling one new COVID-19 case. That fresh infection is connected to travel outside Atlantic Canada in the reassuring phrasing of the provincial press release, and the patient is self-isolating, as required.
Again, our case count is remaining low no cases Monday, five cases yesterday and now just one today. This highlights the fact that Nova Scotians are putting in the work to stay safe and healthy, says Iain Rankin, premier, cheerleader and good cop half of the pandemic-fighting team known as Strankin. Thank you for continuing to look after each other and know that the best way to protect everyone is by continuing to follow public health measures. ....

ARIES
(March 21-April 19)
Artist Richard Kehl tells this traditional Jewish story: God said to Abraham, But for me, you would not be here. Abraham answered, I know that Lord, but were I not here there would be no one to think about you. I m bringing this tale to your attention, dear Aries, because I think the coming weeks will be a favourable time to summon a comparable cheekiness with authorities, including even the Divine Wow Herself. So I invite you to consider the possibility of being sassy, saucy and bold. Risk being an articulate maverick with a point of view that the honchos an ....
