An international contest has been launched to create a new £248 million (CAN$430 million) mixed-use office block for the Canadian Parliament in Ottawa [Deadline: 16 February 2021]
The two-stage competition – backed by the Government of Canada and endorsed by the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada – will select a team to renovate and redevelop a large urban block located immediately opposite the Gothic Revival Canadian Parliament Buildings.

The ‘Block C’ project will transform a 9,800m² plot, which currently hosts eleven buildings, into a ‘innovative and creative’ new 30,000m² complex featuring office space for the Senate of Canada and House of Commons, branch space for the Library of Parliament, and shop units fronting Ottawa’s famous Sparks Street Mall.
