The latest Commonwealth Bank Household Spending Intentions data has revealed increases in health & fitness and education spending in June 2021 in comparison to June last year.
This increased spending reflects a greater consumer focus on wellbeing activities resulting from COVID-19. The biggest health spending increases were in doctors, hospitals, medical labs, nursing & personal care, orthopaedic, osteopaths and podiatrists. Fitness spending increases were also seen in commercial and professional sports and club memberships.
The number of education related transactions was also up, with the largest increase in the value of these transactions seen in elementary and secondary schools. This reflects both an increase in education fees, along with a greater number of children enrolled in fee paying schools. ....

Property purchasing goals have remained intact in Australia despite the COVID-19 crisis, with less than a quarter altering their goals in the current environment, according to research.
A survey by online brokerage Lendi has found that 61 per cent of respondents said the coronavirus pandemic, governmentstimulus measures and the broader economicenvironment have not impacted their property ownership goals.
The survey of 1,100 Australians has revealed that 17 per cent said they have become more ambitious about their home ownership goals, while 22 per cent said they have become less ambitious.
The survey, which asked respondents about their life goals and what they put on hold in 2020 and what they have in store for 2021, found that 20 per cent put off moving to a new area in 2020, while 21 per cent plan to move to a new area in 2021. ....

Plans to purchase a home declined in December 2020, while home loan application numbers also weakened compared with November, according to the CBA.
Data from the Commonwealth Bank Household Spending Intentions (HSI) series has revealed that spending intentions for home buying pulled back in December 2020 after jumping higher in November.
However, the trend was flat on the month.
Home loan applications also shrunk in December from a month earlier, although they were higher than the levels a year ago.
Commenting on the trends, Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA) senior economist Belinda Allen said: “We continue to expect the home buyingmarket to be a key source of support for the Australian economy ....
