Young received the Congressional Community Hero Award.
âWhat you did with COVID, and all the things you did at Fort Hood for us, and then with (Winter Storm) Uri . itâs phenomenal,â Williams said before presenting the award. âI donât think we know how many people youâve touched and saved and so forth, and through your leadership, and we appreciate you.â
Williams represents Copperas Cove in the U.S. House District 25.
Also serving as the cityâs emergency management coordinator, Young has helped organize multiple coronavirus testing and vaccination clinics in partnership with Coryell Health in Gatesville.
He also worked nonstop during the winter storm in February. The fire department was inundated with calls for service during the winter storm. Many of the calls the department responded to were for residents who had run out of oxygen.
If the Copperas Cove Independent School District board of trustees concurs with a request by Superintendent Joe Burns, face coverings will no longer be required in campus buildings, effective July 1.
Burns is expected to ask for approval from the board Tuesday to repeal the current mask mandate in the district, according to the meeting agenda.
âIn an attempt to assist our community, CCISD has partnered with the City of Copperas Cove, Coryell Health, Advent Health Systems, and the DSHS to provide seven opportunities for CCISD employees, age eligible students and community members to receive the COVID vaccine in Copperas Cove,â Burns said in an action sheet attached to the agenda. âWith these efforts and the efforts of local medical providers and pharmacies we are now seeing very low incidences of COVID-19 infections among our students, staff and in the community.â

COPPERAS COVE, Texas A Copperas Cove woman is turning her pain into her purpose.
At 18 weeks into her pregnancy, Lorianne Valois s son Brady was diagnosed with congenital diaphragmatic hernia This meant his diaphragm was not growing properly and left an opening that allowed his organs to move around. Just to get that news was really heartbreaking, Valois said.
Baby Brady passed away 7 hours after he was born. Before leaving the hospital, Valois says she received a hope box filled with a journal, Bible, a handwritten note, and other things meant to bring her comfort from the local chapter of Hope Mommies.
