Bolt announces intention to operate e-scooters in Ireland; 25 jobs could be created in Cork Bolt has today announced its intention to bring its e-scooters to Ireland as part of an integrated transport system. Amy Nolan On-demand transportation company Bolt has set its sights on creating over 130 jobs nationally with plans to bring its e-scooters to Ireland. Of these 130 jobs, it is understood 25 could be created in Cork. Following the successful launch of its taxi-hailing service in Dublin, Bolt is intent on creating Ireland s first multi-modal transport platform, where the public can choose between a car, e-scooter or even an e-bike.

200 new jobs to be created in Cork  Microchip Cork Development Centre SIXTY new jobs are to be created in Cork over the next three years, with 200 in the pipeline within the next seven as Microchip Technology is investing $20M to create a new development centre based in Cork.  The new facility will open during Q1 CY21 and will reinforce Microchip’s existing presence in Ireland and boost the pool of engineering talent across key skills.  Located close to the city centre, this new facility will incorporate an engineering lab to support state-of-the-art innovation and extend Microchip’s regional customer support. The project is supported by the Irish Government through IDA Ireland.

Picture: Andres Poveda Photography. Amy Nolan Some 4,000 students attended this year s STEM South West Industry and Career Expo, held as a virtual event due to Covid-19. Students considering a career in any areas of science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) were invited to attend the free expo held last night. The event saw scores of Cork and Kerry’s largest employers in the areas of science, technology, engineering and maths participate.
