Between the public and Catholic English school boards in Windsor-Essex, there are 13 active COVID-19 cases.
On Tuesday, the Greater Essex County District School Board (GECDSB) added one new case to its website, bringing the total active cases in the board to nine. To date, the board says since the start of the school year in September 2020 it has had 134 confirmed cases of the disease.

Progress continues in the fight against COVID-19 in Windsor-Essex on Monday with the start of vaccinations for seniors in the community ages 80 and older.
It’s the first time the COVID-19 vaccine has been made available to the general public in the region outside long-term care facilities. A mass vaccination site has been set up at the WFCU Centre, 8787 McHugh St.

“It’s a pretty significant milestone in our community,” said Dr. Wajid Ahmed, the region’s medical officer of health, who attended the WFCU Centre on Monday.

Two cohorts from a middle school in Leamington have been dismissed following a positive COVID-19 case in a student, according to the Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board.
In a news release Monday, the school board said 42 students have been dismissed from Cardinal Carter Catholic Middle School in Leamington. The case, the board said, was confirmed Monday and students were told not to return to class on Tuesday.
