It’s been a week of mostly good news from the front lines of the battle against COVID-19 and one could almost hear the collective sign of relief (and perhaps even a few whoops of joy) when the news of the slightly earlier reopening of patios was announced. It is, after all, patio season so to be able to actually leave our homes, head outdoors and enjoy a great meal and a beverage is long overdue. Given the short notice, however, and the fact that our poor personal services friends are STILL nowhere near opening, I predict a few of your friends might look a little different from the last time you saw them, please be kind! More importantly however, is the fact that so many of us can now go out and get our “second jab” and for most of us, that’s the best news of all. Thanks to the Caledon East Community Centre vaccination clinic for once again rising to the occasion. ....

Caledon East Community Centre expansion project set to break ground in 2021

On Tuesday, Council met with Director of Community Services Heather Savage regarding the Caledon East Community Centre (CECC) expansion plan.
Council passed a motion to accept the plan presented by Ms. Savage.
On staff recommendation, the Town will enter into a Guaranteed Maximum Price Contract with Ball Construction Limited for $25,019,347 for the expansion of the CECC the total addition to the expansion is 57,600 square feet.
The catalyst for the project was the Parks and Recreation Master Plan that was undertaken in 2010 by Caledon Community Service that recognized Caledon East as a growing area with a need for future expansion plans to the CECC to accommodate new residents. ....

Council approves 1.13% tax increase in 2021 Budget following Feb. 16 meeting

Caledon residents can expect to see a 1.13 per cent tax increase as part of the 2021 Budget, following Council’s approval of the 2021 Budget on February 16.
The Town states they worked at organizing the Budget to focus on impacts being faced by residents and local businesses stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic and, at the same time, preparing for future growth.
“Our focus this year is on people, community and recovery. This means that the best thing we can do for residents and businesses is maintain service levels and keep our infrastructure in a state of good repair,” Mayor Allan Thompson. ....

Town of Caledon approves 2021 budget

The 2021 budget has been approved in the Town of Caledon.
Earlier the week, councillors supported an overall 1.13% increase, including Region of Peel and school board tax impacts, for homeowners.
This represents an approximate $59 property tax increase per typical household and is less than what was originally proposed.
Mayor Allan Thompson says the best thing they can do for residents and businesses is maintain service levels and keep our infrastructure in a state of good repair during the recovery.
Some key investments include:
-$30.0 million for the Roads Capital Program and $1.8 million for the Bridge Capital Program. This will include work such as road reconstruction or rehabilitation, asphalt roads maintenance, surface treatment, design and environmental assessments of various roads. ....
