Guwahati, May 22 (IANS) The BJP government in Assam is contemplating to introduce cow protection bill in the next Assembly session to prohibit transport of the animal outside the state, Governor Jagdish Mukhi said on Saturday, while addressing the second day of the first session of the new state Assembly.

Grass shortages: There is a marked difference in different parts of the country in grass growth.
On some farms there are real issues where farm cover has dropped to a very low level and grass is finding it hard to get going again.
Higher stocked farms have been hit hardest. On some of these farms gates were opened up to allow animals access a larger area to avoid housing.
Some supplementary feed should have been introduced on these farms to try to hold the rotation and keep closing up paddocks behind cattle as they move through them. When grass is eaten at very low covers it takes longer for it to get growing again so that’s why some farms are not seeing any growth. ....

LHI's 1Q net profit jumps 222% to record RM70.33m

(LHI), one of Asean’s largest fully integrated producers of poultry, egg and livestock feed, posted an impressive set of financial results in the first quarter ended March 31,2021 (1Q21).
LHI’s executive director and group CEO Tan Sri Francis Lau Tuang Nguang said on Thursday the group delivered a strong set of results, with pre-tax profit up 199.6% to RM105.15mil.
It posted a record net profit of RM70.33mil, which was the strongest quarterly performance since it was listed about two years ago. Net profit was 222.8% above the RM21.79mil a year ago.
Its revenue increased by 16.9% to RM1.68bil from RM1.43bil. Earnings per share were 1.93 sen compared with 0.6 sen a year ago. It declared an interim dividend of 0.66 of a sen. ....

Stating that the 2021 kharif season is approaching in midst of second wave of Covid pandemic, the ICAR advisory said, Therefore, disruption in normal operations/ logistics usually undertaken during the pre-kharif period is likely.

Ahead of sowing of kharif (summer) crops, the government s premier agri-research body ICAR has come out with an advisory to help farmers overcome the impact of the second wave of the pandemic on farm production and their income. During 2021-22, second wave of COVID-19 pandemic is again posing a serious problem to the nation, halting economic activities in one way or the other. The resultant actions may impact agricultural production and consequently national food and nutrition security, said the 400 page advisory prepared by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). ....

Average base grade price up for steers and heifers

The beef trade has remained steady, with last week’s official Department of Agriculture prices showing increases across the board.
The ABG system is the average of the base grades on the EUROP pricing grid.
Each week, factories are ranked based on the average of the reported prices paid for the QPS base grades in the particular week of trading (ie animals grading R= and R- on conformation and from 2+ to 4= on fat score).
Prices include the 12c/kg bonus and the 20c/kg bonus in-spec quality assurance paid on eligible animals and/or any other bonuses. ....
