Kingston mothballs boat launching facility

KINGSTON District Council will not proceed with the reinstatement of the Maria Creek Boat Launching Facility following overwhelming community support for its in principle decision.   
A ballot of Kingston District Council ratepayers found 78pc supported council’s in principle position not to proceed with the reinstatement of the facility after an independent report found rate revenue would need to increase by up to 19pc to fund the project.   
More than 20pc of respondents indicated they were willing to pay a capital cost of $7.6m to reinstate the facility and a minimum of $626,000 recurrent funding each year for dredging work and depreciation. ....

More sand arrives at Wyomi Beach

Following the success of the sand nourishment campaign at Wyomi Beach in 2020, Kingston District Council has again been successful in receiving grant funding to continue implementing strategies which will minimise erosion risk for the upcoming winter season.
Council considered the funding allocation and associated technical note at its meeting of 20 April, where it endorsed the recommendation to proceed with a secondary sand nourishment campaign.
The 2021 sand nourishment campaign will consist of approximately 9,000m3 (6,000m3 to south and 3,000m3 to the north) and will be undertaken this month, with sand sourced south of the jetty as per the previous campaign. ....

Keilira and Kingston District Council hosts thank you event

THE Keilira community and the Kingston District Council will rally together to host a thank you celebration to acknowledge the efforts of emergency services, community groups, organisations and individuals in the wake of the 2019/20 Black Summer fire.   
Community members are encouraged to attend the free, cocktail style event on Saturday, May 15 to acknowledge the efforts of those who played a vital role in containing the Keilira bushfire, protecting properties and those who helped in the aftermath.   
Kingston District Council chief executive officer Nat Traeger said the event’s name was derived from a ball of barbed wire collected by BlazeAid volunteers after the December 30 fire.    ....

MARIA CREEK: Kingston District Council have sought the views of ratepayers on the future of the Maria Creek Boat Launching Facility after an independent report found council s rate revenue would need to increase by up to 19pc over the next 10 years to fund the project.

KINGSTON District Council has adopted an in principle position not to proceed with the reinstatement of a council-owned boat ramp after an independent report found rate revenue would need to increase by up to 19pc to fund the project.
At last month’s meeting, councillors discussed an independent business case for the Maria Creek Boat Launching Facility following the closure of the facility in 2019 due to sand and seagrass build-up. ....
