Here’s how Valentino Ambrosio seized the Rutgers kicking job and why it’s his job to lose in spring camp

One of the most pleasant surprises to emerge during the Rutgers football season last fall won’t be sneaking up on anyone this spring.
Valentino Ambrosio will be the No. 1 placekicker when the Scarlet Knights begin spring camp later this month, according to special teams coordinator Adam Scheier.
“He’ll be the kicker on Day 1 of spring ball,’ Scheier said. “But it is a very fluid situation.’
It means Ambrosio has a leg up on a competition that will include Guy Fava this spring and will eventually include Michael O’Connor, a Red Bank Catholic product who will join the squad for preseason camp in August. ....
