'Rural workers, peasants unprotected due to non-implementation of laws'

KARACHI: The rights of peasants and rural workers in the province are vulnerable and unprotected due to the non-implementation of the existing laws, speakers told a seminar jointly organised by the Hari Welfare Association (HWA) and the Sindh Human Rights Commission (SHRC).
SHRC Chairperson Justice (retd) Majida Rizvi said that the major issues are little awareness of the laws regarding the rights of peasants and rural workers, and no accountability of the officials of the relevant departments over the implementation of the laws.
She said that a monitoring mechanism needs to be developed within the SHRC, and each department concerned should submit a mandatory annual progress report on the implementation of the laws to the commission, which will provide annual or regular recommendations to the relevant departments. ....

Vietnam: More people in rural areas following the current wave - going shopping online

HANOI, April 11 (Vietnam News/ANN): Rural consumers are increasingly shop online, with 46 per cent of internet users engaged in online shopping activities.
This was revealed in an annual report on consumer behaviour, consumption of media, brand usage and awareness of consumers in rural and suburban areas of Vietnam, which was produced by Facebook and GroupM Vietnam.
Rural and suburban areas are potential areas for businesses to drive growth. Rural areas currently account for 63 per cent of the population, and 60 per cent of the country s gross domestic product.
It is estimated that the monthly cost of fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) in rural areas will increase by 7 per cent on average annually from 2020-2025, faster than in class-1 urban areas (4 per cent). ....
