North Hastings Community Trust looking for Community Donations

North Hastings Community Trust is looking for some essential things for people in need this year.
The Trust’s Rural Outreach Community Kindness (ROCK) program is looking out for those who are homeless or have uncertain housing arrangements to help make their life easier. Items that are needed include toiletries, snacks that people can eat on the go, and hygiene products. In addition, because of the change of season, summertime items are required as well. These include tents, sleeping bags, tarps, flashlights and batteries, sunglasses, sunscreen, bug spray, backpacks and socks.
The Donation Bin Project has been set up to collect all these items. Tracy McAllister, the Organizer of the Project, says there are several drop-off bins across North Hastings. In Bancroft, they are offering a bin at North Hastings Community Integration on Alice Street. Bins can also be found at the Community Trust location on Bridge Street, and at the Northern Rural Net offices on Hastings Street ....

Overdose deaths reveal a 'pandemic within a pandemic' | Bancroft this Week

Dear North Hastings Community,
On Feb. 11 we wrote to the funders, service providers and health agencies in North Hastings about the dramatic increase in overdose deaths in our community since December 2020. We have not received any formal responses to our letter. Because we believe this is a conversation the entire community must have, we are submitting this letter as public follow up to the first.
We can appreciate that some may feel helpless in the face of this tragedy. We are sympathetic to that feeling. But our town cannot thrive if we do not address the “pandemic within a pandemic” which is that people – with kids, families, jobs, aspirations and potential – are dying of drug overdoses at an alarming rate in 2021. We cannot sustain our economic growth, nor can we attract the professional talent we need, if we do not create a community where we care for each other through tragedy.
