Residents, workers rush to flee EMCO area

BUKIT MERTAJAM: There was a scramble by some residents and workers to leave Taman Nagasari, which is under the enhanced movement control order (MCO) from today until July 17.
Police officers manning roadblocks had their hands full preventing them from leaving the area before the cordon and barbed wire were set up.
Residents attempted to sneak away via back lanes while factories reportedly tried to use buses to transport workers out at night. ....

GEORGE TOWN: Despite a target 1.3 million people or 70% of its population, the Penang government is seeing less than 1% of the number being vaccinated daily.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the slow process of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme could be due to insufficient vaccines and the low number of vaccination centres in the state.
He said there were supposed to be 10 vaccination centres in Penang but only five had opened so far.
“Our daily target was 7,500 people across 10 centres in Penang. ....

SHAH ALAM: Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari today announced the special financial assistance (BKK) of half-month salary or a minimum of RM1,000 for state civil servants in conjunction with Aidilfitri, to be paid on May 19.
He said the special assistance would also be extended to state executive councillors, speaker, deputy speaker, state assemblymen, top management and members of the state government service with an estimated allocation of RM22.675 million.
Community leaders including chairmen of the Village Community Management Council (MPKK), new villages’ liaison officers, Indian communities’ heads and Women Empowerment programme (PWB) supervisors would also receive RM1,000. ....

Covid-19: Low registration in Negeri Sembilan due to poor internet coverage

SEREMBAN: Poor Internet coverage in several rural areas in Jelebu, Jempol and Kuala Pilah districts, has been identified as among factors for the low number of registration for Covid-19 vaccination through the MySejahtera application in Negeri Sembilan.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun said many of the areas consist of Orang Asli villages.
Following that, he said, the district officers and Village Community Management Council (MPKK) have been directed to take immediate measures in ensuring that the people in the areas are registered.
“We have also informed the Orang Asli community to discuss with the Orang Asli Development Department to form a mobile team to facilitate registration and vaccination for the group,” he told reporters after the State Executive Council weekly meeting, here, today. ....
