'It's just so heartbreaking' – Covid-hit nursing home sees four deaths in 24 hours

A nursing home where four residents died over 24 hours after a “horrific tidal wave” of Covid-19 swept through it has appealed for help.
Brían McNamara, director of Greenpark Nursing Home in Tuam, Co Galway, said the loss of 12 residents over the last three weeks “rips your soul clean out”.
Mr McNamara told RTÉ’s Drivetime on Monday that residents began to test positive a week before they received their first vaccine.
“It has been absolutely horrendous since,” he said.
Greenpark remained Covid-19 free throughout the first and second wave of the virus but in the past three weeks, 35 out of 49 residents tested positive, and 12 have since died. ....

The number of residents with Covid-19 to die at Co Louth nursing home has risen to 14 with one man dying more than a week after receiving the first dose of the vaccine.
Blackrock Abbey near Dundalk has said that it is through the worst of the outbreak with just two of more than 30 residents who had the virus left to complete their 14-day isolation period.
The number of deaths at the privately owned nursing home has risen from six last week. ....

A Co Galway Nursing Home is appealing for help from qualified nurses following the deaths of twelve residents with Covid-19, four of which occurred in the last 24 hours.
Speaking to RTÉ s Drivetime, Brían McNamara, Director of Greenpark Nursing Home in Tuam, said they have been hit by an horrific tidal wave in recent weeks.
There have been 35 positive cases out of 49 residents, he said, while half of the staff tested positive and are out of work.
He said that just a week before the facility was due to start receiving vaccinations, residents began testing positive for Covid-19. ....
