Brisbane COVID cases linked to Greek community of St George

Priests and staff of St George Greek Orthodox Church and the community centre in Brisbane have gone into isolation after four cases of COVID-19 in the city were linked to the church and the community centre in the past week.
Last week a mother and her child who had visited the church’s community centre tested positive for the A-variant of the virus. Queensland’s Chief Health Officer Jeanette Young revealed that the Brisbane’s Greek Community Centre was one of the sites that was visited by a mother and daughter who were found to have contracted the COVID-19 virus on Thursday. ....

Early on Sunday, authorities were confident Queensland’s COVID-19 clusters were “under control”, but later, another person tested positive, taking the day’s tally to three cases – two locally acquired.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said of the first two cases that one was linked to the Portuguese restaurant cluster while the other was in hotel quarantine.
Chief Health Officer Jeannette Young has urged anyone with symptoms to get tested.

Further testing has confirmed the person of interest case announced this morning has the virus. The person is a close contact of the Greek Community Centre and will be included in tomorrow’s case numbers.
This means Queensland has recorded two new cases of COVID-19 today, one overseas acquired case detected in hotel quarantine and one locally acquired case linked to the Portuguese community centre.
Queensland’s Chief Health Officer Dr Jeannette Young said contact tracing was underway with any relevant exposure sites to be published to the Queensland Health contact tracing locations website as soon as they become available. ....

International arrivals to be halved, as National Cabinet agrees on COVID-19 targets

Australia’s National Cabinet has agreed to halve the number of people allowed into Australia per week and set up vaccination targets.
International arrivals will be capped at 3,035 people per week from 14 July, in rules which will be in place until at least the start of next year. The number of arrivals will be a drop from 6,370.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison said National Cabinet would consider changing the caps sooner should the medical advice on the caps change.
In response to calls by the governments of Victoria, Queensland and Western Australia, commercial flight numbers would be cut, but repatriation flights would increase though there were no details given regarding the number of extra flights to be provided. ....
