The trial of Dublin women accused of refusing to enter mandatory hotel quarantine after returning from a trip to Dubai has been delayed by almost three months pending a constitutional challenge.
Kirstie McGrath, 30, with an address at St Anthony s Road, Dublin 8 and Niamh Mulreany, 25, from Scarlett Row, Essex Street West, Dublin 2 were arrested on the afternoon of 2 April at Terminal 2 in Dublin Airport.
The two friends, who deny breaching Section 38 of the the Health (Amendment) Act 2021, had just returned from the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
A district court bail hearing on 3 April was told they went abroad for breast enhancement surgery. ....

A constitutional challenge by two women who were arrested for refusing to hotel quarantine after they returned from a trip to Dubai has been adjourned to next month.
Niamh Mulreany (25) and Kirstie McGrath (30) were arrested at Dublin Airport on their return from Dubai for breaches to the Health Act on Good Friday last.
The arrest and subsequent court action resulted in a constitutional challenge against the State over the mandatory hotel quarantine laws.
Ms Mulreany, of Scarlett Row, and Ms McGrath, Rialto, both Dublin were released from Mountjoy Prison after the terms of the bail they received in the District Court were varied to allow them to quarantine in a hotel following initiation of the High Court challenge. ....

Challenge by two women over quarantine adjourned

A High Court challenge by two women who were arrested at Dublin Airport after initially refusing to enter mandatory hotel quarantine has been adjourned until next month.
Niamh Mulreany, 25, and 30-year-old Kirstie McGrath had been detained in Mountjoy Prison before their bail conditions were changed and they completed their quarantine at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Santry.
The women had flown back from Dubai on 2 April and were arrested and charged with breaching Section 38 of the Health (amendment) act 2021 by refusing to be detained in quarantine following their alleged refusal to go to the hotel.
They were granted bail the following day, but were unable to take it up due to the financial conditions imposed on them. ....

Two women who were arrested at Dublin Airport after initially refusing to enter mandatory hotel quarantine have been released from quarantine this evening.
Niamh Mulreany, 25, and 30-year-old Kirstie McGrath had been detained in Mountjoy Prison before their bail conditions were changed and they continued to quarantine at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Santry.
The women had flown back from Dubai on 2 April.
They were arrested and charged with breaching Section 38 of the Health (amendment) act 2021 by refusing to be detained in quarantine following their alleged refusal to go to the hotel.
They were granted bail the following day, but were unable to take it up due to the financial conditions imposed on them. ....
