Provincial funding allocated to the St. Lawrence River Institute over two years will support an ongoing project aimed at studying and monitoring the restoration of little brown bats in eastern Ontario.
“Loss of natural habitats, together with white nose syndrome disease, has had a devastating effect on native bat species across North America, especially little brown bats,” said Dr. Brian Hickey, lead scientist of the program. “This funding will support critical work to map roosting and feeding sites so that remaining little brown populations in eastern Ontario can be protected. Our project involves students, volunteers, and community members to increase awareness and understanding of the need to protect species at risk.” ....
