A Juniata County couple, Drew (a teacher at East Juniata) and Daris Ciecierski (a social worker), were life-flighted after suffering injuries in a house fire. They lost everything. Thankfully, the couple’s daughter escaped unharmed. A couple area groups are doing what they can for the family. Below are two of those events.

JV Bank offers local scholarship to students | News, Sports, Jobs

MIFFINTOWN Juniata Valley Bank is offering a scholarship for one Juniata and one East Juniata high school student.
Cindy Williams of the Juniata Valley Bank outlined the criteria of the Richard J. and Lela A. Nestler College Scholarship during the weekly Juniata County Commissioners meeting held Tuesday.
She said the applicant with the highest SAT score will receive the scholarship, which will pay for the student’s first semester of college.
Applications are available at Juniata Valley Bank and guidance offices at Juniata and East Juniata high schools and on the county’s website. Students must apply by May 1. ....

New budget to lead to Juniata Co. tax increase | News, Sports, Jobs

MIFFLINTOWN – If Juniata County School District’s budget is approved as it stands, residents will see a tax increase moving in to the 2021-22 school year.
Superintendent Gary Dawson presented the district’s board of directors with early estimates for a $44.3 million preliminary budget that shows $43.91 million in revenues.
The projections were presented during the board’s workshop meeting on Wednesday.
The budget includes one-time federal funds coming from the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund which is offered to help school districts facing issues related to COVID-19.
As it stands, early budget projections show a $390,000 deficit. ....
