It’s a passion for music, and the sharing with others, that has prompted piano performer and teacher, Corey Francis, to contact as many personal care homes across the province as possible, to enjoy virtual concerts of his students’ performing.
Francis began the ‘Sharing is Caring’ incentive where the recordings of their recitals will be shared virtually with residents, with each month featuring a new recital of talent from his 66 students.
Francis, who grew up in the Altona area, is well known for his accomplishments on the keyboard; having accompanied many Sunday morning church services, he’s held the position of church music director and accompanied various choirs. Since living in Winnipeg, Francis has been teaching students part-time over the past 8 or so years in addition to working a regular day job. ....

The number of daily COVID-19 cases announced in Manitoba went up again on Friday, after days of case counts that hovered below 200. That update came shortly after the province announced current public health orders will be extended until Jan. 22.

Efforts to re-invigorate the Spiritual Care Coordinator role at three of Altona s care facilities have taken a step forward.
In October, officials with Rhineland Area Ministerial, Gardens on Tenth, and Altona Community Memorial Health Centre - Southern Health-Sante Sud announced a newly forged partnership to bring back the full time, professional position.
Since then, Rudy Franz has been hired to fill the role that now includes the local hospital, Eastview Place personal care home and the Gardens on Tenth Apartments.
Having retired in June after 31 years of pastoral ministry, Franz says he began to realize after some months that he wasn t quite ready to give up all forms of ministry. ....
