After several women suicided, this Melbourne community is addressing family violence

In 2018 and 2019, seven suspected suicides in Melbourne s City of Whittlesea left local authorities deeply concerned.
The incidents had disturbing similarities and there was evidence some of the women had experienced family violence prior to their deaths.
SBS News was the first to report on the cluster in June 2020 and a subsequent coronial investigation into the deaths of four of the South Asian women urged for more to be done to help vulnerable women in the community.

She had recently left an abusive relationship and was raising her daughter on her own, so she reached out to her doctor for help.
She was prescribed diazepam, a type of benzodiazepine, and it worked; the drug knocked her cold every night for a year.
Hannah s doctor slowly upped the dose as her body adjusted.
Her weight fell to 45 kilograms and her daughter had trouble recognising her, but Hannah had no idea she was dependent on the drug. ....

Monash is celebrating the announcement of the location for the long-awaited headspace service that will provide young people in the municipality with better access to mental health support.
headspace Syndal is planned to open in March 2021 at 265-267 Blackburn Road and will be operated by a consortium led by Alfred Health. The consortium includes Monash Youth Services, Access Employment Services, EACH, Gateway LLEN, Hawthorn Football Club and Launch Housing.
