IMA Uttarakhand slaps Rs 1,000 crore defamation notice on Ramdev over remarks on allopathy medicine

Yoga guru Ramdev has stirred a major controversy slamming allopathic medicine over the Covid crisis. (PTI)
The Indian Medical Association (IMA) Uttarakhand branch has slapped a defamation notice of Rs 1,000 crore on yoga guru Baba Ramdev over his recent controversial remarks against allopathic medicine for treatment of Covid-19 cases.
In its defamation notice, IMA Uttarakhand has stated that if Baba Ramdev doesn t post a video countering his statements on allopathic medicine, or tender a written apology within the next 15 days, then a sum of Rs 1000 crore will be demanded from him.
Moreover, the IMA Uttararanchal State Branch had also written to Uttarakhand Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat against Baba Ramdev s statements against allopathic medical profession hoping for a prompt and strict action against him. ....

Coronavirus outbreak: Ramdev on Sunday withdrew his derogatory remarks against allopathic medicine

Yoga televangelist Ramdev on Sunday withdrew his derogatory remarks against allopathic medicine after Union health minister Harsh Vardhan wrote to him seeking a retraction and saying his “extremely unfortunate” comments had disrespected “corona warriors” and could demoralise healthcare workers.
“Hon’ble Minister, I have received your letter. I withdraw my statement, putting to rest the controversy over various medical practices,” Ramdev tweeted in Hindi from his personal Twitter handle.

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has called for a nationwide doctors’ strike on December 11, to protest against the government notification which authorises post-graduate practitioners in specified streams of Ayurveda to train and perform general surgical procedures.
The nationwide protests are to take place at 10,000 different locations across the country to protest against the government notification listing surgeries that Ayurveda practitioners can perform. This may cause major disruptions in healthcare services across the country amid the Covid-19 pandemic. ....
