SYLVESTER, Ga. (WALB) - Sylvester city leaders are gearing up to enter the residential broadband internet market.
The $4.7 million dollar project is currently in the design phase.
The money for the project is coming from SPLOST tax funds and telecommunication operating revenue.
County leaders said it’s been in the works for a while, even before the pandemic.
“The pandemic, I think, let the council see that broadband is not just a luxury, it’s essential. We’re gonna have to do a good job of marketing and also selling a good quality product. People not just gonna switch because we’re the city,” said Sylvester City Manager Autron Hayes. ....
