More than 7,000 COVID-19 vaccine appointments in Manitoba delayed over supply issues

Those who have an appointment booked at a Manitoba COVID-19 vaccination pop-up clinic next week may have to wait a while longer due to more vaccine delays.
In a news release on Monday, the province said two shipments of the Moderna vaccine were delayed, impacting about 7,200 people.
One delivery of 28,300 doses, which was expected on March 22, was nearly two weeks late. The province said another shipment of 28,400 doses expected this week has been delayed until next week, though the exact date when the doses will arrive is not known.
Currently, the province said 210,088 doses have been administered in Manitoba – which includes 148,560 first doses. The province is expecting 37,440 doses of the Pfizer vaccine and 11,500 doses of AstraZeneca/Covishield this week. ....

Manitobans left frustrated as demand for campsite reservations skyrockets

The number of Manitobans hoping to book campsites, cabins or group-use areas has more than quadrupled compared to last year, and the rush for a reservation has left many people frustrated.
By 7 a.m. on Monday, in the opening minute for campground reservations, 12,825 people signed on to get their reservations, according to the province. At the same time in 2020, it was 2,804 people.
The province noted that many people also sign on with multiple devices and browsers.
By 11 a.m., Manitoba Parks had made 10,668 reservations. By the same time last year, it has taken 5,706 reservations.
The province noted that during the rush for reservations on Monday morning, there was a technical issue, but it was quickly resolved. ....

Thousands of Manitoba parents sign open letter against changes to education system

Thousands of parents in Manitoba have signed an open letter to the government in opposition of Bill 64 –The Education Modernization Act.
This bill would see changes to Manitoba’s Kindergarten to Grade 12 education system that include replacing Manitoba’s 37 school divisions with 15 regions overseen by a provincial oversight body. The bill would also remove elected school boards and the role of school trustees.
In the letter, addressed to Premier Brian Pallister and Education Minister Cliff Cullen, the parents say that if this bill were passed into law it would “dismantle” the public education system.
“The Premier and Minister of Education claim that this legislation will result in a better education system for Manitoba families,” it says. ....
