Vaccine rollout by Queensland Health the real 'national scandal'

Sky News host Peter Gleeson says the national vaccine rollout's timeline was "not the issue" in Queensland, but rather the Queensland health department's own response has left "serious questions" to answer.

The remarks come after Queensland Deputy Premier Steven Miles said the state wouldn’t be facing risks if the Morrison government engaged with the state about the construction of a national quarantine facility.

“We should have never ever been in a situation where a lockdown was happening," Mr Gleeson told Sky News host Peta Credlin.

“The haphazard way in which the Queensland health department vaccinated wardsmen, pharmacists before doctors and nurses who were on the frontline treating COVID patients is an absolute national scandal.”

Miles calls out Morrison government over quarantine, vaccines

Queensland Deputy Premier Steven Miles says the state wouldn’t be facing risks if the Morrison government engaged with the state about the construction of a national quarantine facility.

Greater Brisbane will exit lockdown at midday after recording just one new case of community transmission. However, nine cases were recorded in hotel quarantine, causing some concern for the government.

“Yesterday David Littleproud said that whatever the states needed, the Commonwealth would provide. Well, we need a national quarantine centre so that we can reduce the risk of returning travellers so that we don't have to cut back on the number of returning travellers when we have an outbreak,” Mr Miles said.

“What you saw yesterday, I think, was a very cynical attempt from David Littleproud to use the number of vaccines delivered to states and territories to try to get Andrew Laming out of the news cycle.

“But he should not have risked confidence in the vaccin ....
